Why can't I log this?
Last updated: September 6, 2026
Istiqama's logging rules exist to keep your record honest, not to get in your way. Here's what each one actually does and why.
Why can't I log a prayer before its time?
Each prayer opens 5 minutes before its calculated start, and stays open until the next one begins (Isha stays open until the next day's Fajr). The 5-minute grace covers a slightly-off clock, not a way to log prayers ahead of time — if logging opened any earlier, someone could bank a whole day's prayers in advance, which would make the heatmap mean nothing.
Why can't I log a prayer from several days ago?
A new entry can only be created for today or yesterday. Anything older shows up as missed automatically — Istiqama computes that from the clock, it isn't a stored value you're fighting. If you genuinely prayed it late, mark it as qadha (made up) instead of trying to backdate a fresh log; that keeps the distinction between "logged on time" and "made up later" visible in your own history, which is the point of tracking it at all.
Why does it say I missed a prayer I actually prayed?
"Missed" isn't something you or the app sets directly — it's what a cell shows when its window has closed with no logged or qadha entry. If the window is still open, log it as prayed. If it's already closed, mark it as qadha rather than logged; both count toward your consistency, they just mean different things.
Why can't I edit or delete an old log anymore?
An entry locks 7 days after you created it — not 7 days after the prayer itself. That freeze is what makes your history trustworthy: without it, a log could be quietly rewritten long after the fact. If you made a genuine mistake within that window, editing still works normally.
Why was my future-dated entry rejected?
Istiqama only tracks prayers as they actually happen — there's no way to pre-log tomorrow's Isha today. Time is always read from the server when you log something, never from your device's clock, so this can't be worked around by changing your device's date either.
My prayer times look wrong for my location
Prayer times are calculated from the city, calculation method, madhab, and high-latitude rule saved in your settings — not detected fresh from your device on every load. If you've moved, traveled, or just want a different calculation method, update Settings → Prayer preferences and the times recalculate immediately. At very high latitudes, the high-latitude rule you choose can noticeably shift Fajr and Isha; that's expected, and the setting exists so you can match how you already pray rather than accept one fixed method.
